🌻 Orange Daylily Worthit!
📍 苗栗縣大湖鄉細道邦道大湖金針花堤防 (Orange Daylily Embankment), Miaoli County, Dahu Township, Taiwan
It’s Mother’s Day!
While in western countries, carnations symbolise motherhood, in Taiwan, orange daylily represents mothers!👩👧👦
Good news for the people living on the west coast of Taiwan:📰
By simply driving to Miaoli, there’s no need to go to Taitung for visiting the orange daylily.💛
The daylily is a perennial herb of the daylily family (Hemerocallis), with the English name daylily.
It is also called 金針花、萱草、忘憂、黃花菜 in the Chinese culture.
In the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the orange daylilies are said to have curative effects on anxiety, insomnia, improving skin conditions and improving memory.💡
Scientific research also proves that the dried flower contains 7.5mg of iron, which is twice the amount of spinach.🥬
However, the fresh orange daylilies are a little bit poisonous due to their contained toxin, so make sure you soak them in water for about 2 hours and properly boil them before you eat!🥢
The flower sea of orange daylily was planted by the Dahu township office, and the flower season is estimated to last until the end of May.🗓
The main orange daylily production areas in Taiwan are in Yuli and Fuli in Hualien County (花蓮縣玉里、富里) and Taimali in Taitung County (台東縣太麻里). These two counties accounted for about 90% of the total production areas.
According to Council of Agriculture, Taiwan Executive Yuan, cultivars can be divided into “alpine” or “flatland” species:
Alpine species are also known as “native species.” They were introduced to China about 350 years ago from southern China. They are mostly planted in the eastern part of the mountain slopes above 800-1,000 meters above sea level, the production period is from August to September each year.
For flatland species like the ones in Miaoli, they are usually planted on flat land and below 400 meters above sea level, flowering from April to June each year.
